We bought ClickView at the start of this academic year. The reason for our purchase was to assemble a high quality video library that we could direct Post-16 and Year 11 students to access in order to flesh out their high quality revision and e-library resources. With a bank of over 2,000 curated curriculum videos, 11,000 exchange videos curated by other schools and the potential to record anything on Freeview channels the potential of ClickView was huge!
For this to work we needed to ensure that all ClickView videos seamlessly embedded inside FrogLearn sites, both on an off-site. Our initial contact with both Frog and ClickView indicated that this was only supported if ‘Library’ videos were embedded using the ‘Discover’ widget. Unfortunately, this wouldn’t cover the huge bank of videos curated by other schools in ClickView Exchange! These seemed like a pretty major limitation.
Moreover, any TV programmes that we recorded would have to be pushed to our local library server from the cloud and then back into the cloud from our local server…not the easiest solution if we wanted to curate a good number of shows quickly and get them on Frog!
So, by messing around with our setup, and a little bit of hacking around, we have a solution which allows any ClickView video to be embedded in Frog, with seamless single sign on. It also involves no back end work once the process is completed! Within 24 hours a teacher had embedded a video in a FrogLearn site for his class with a simple copy and paste job!
Ensure that you have asked Frog servicedesk (email@example.com) to enable the HTML widget and the Single Sign On App for ClickView. Then click that both requests have been completed.
Ensure that you have asked ClickView servicedesk (firstname.lastname@example.org) to enable Single Sign On with Frog. Then, check that this has been completed.
As an Administrator sign into Frog, click the Frog logo in the top left hand corner of the screen, click ‘System Preferences’, ‘Third Party’, select ‘ClickView’ from the drop down menu and ensure that ‘User Permissions’ is turned on.
You need to find the URL with query string that launches FrogLearn’s ClickView Single Sign On App. If you go to FrogDrive -> Applications -> ClickView you will notice that a URL immediately loads which starts with the subdomain\domain of your FrogLearn platform. Immediately hit ESC to capture the URL (there are other ways – this is just the quickest). It should look something like the below:
If it doesn’t end with ?app_id=LETTERSANDNUMBERS then you should try again, the URL needs to end with a query string starting with app_id=.
Place a HTML widget on the front of your FrogLearn main dashboard.
If different user groups (e.g. parents, staff, admins and students) have different default dashboards then this widget needs to be placed on each dashboard.
Click ‘Edit HTML’ and paste the code below into the code editor. Where I’ve written PASTEURLHERE you should paste the URL that you collected in Step 2.
<iframe src=”PASTEURLHERE” width=”0″ height=”0″></iframe>
Click ‘Save’ and ‘Save Changes’.
That’s it! You’re done! Now when users sign into FrogLearn they’re immediately also signed into ClickView.
Now, if you go to any ClickView video, click ‘share’ and copy the ‘embed this video’ code at the bottom and paste it into the code editor of a FrogLearn HTML widget it will appear for any user. No prompt to sign in, no need to click anything. Just instant access!by
